Desaster – The Arts Of Destruction

Just by looking at the front cover of Desaster’s most recent effort, you can tell that these veteran German thrashers love their Black Metal. An unreadable logo, a pentagram and a picture of a devil… this in not a Paramore record ladies and gentlemen. During their 24 year existence, the sound of this satanic bunch hasn’t deviated that much from its origins. However, their riffs still have enough clout to knock Lucifer to the floor.

Aside from the fairly predictable eerie intro, these Teutonic bruisers seem to know what to do when it comes to Blackened Heavy Metal. The Arts Of Destruction is an album filled to the brim with enough dark and grisly tunes, that soon enough, you’ll want to go out and sacrifice the first goat you find. Songs like ‘Queens Of Sodomy’ and ‘Beyond Your Grace’ have the speed and brutality of a runaway train, while tracks like ‘Possessed And Defiled’ show a slower and more brooding side to the band’s music. Plus, some of the songs include the best spooky laughs to ever be recorded – Vincent Price, eat your heart out!

However, the lyrical content is somewhat generic (death, Satan and the like) and the songs can get a bit repetitive, but Desaster play their music with enough balls that their flaws can easily be forgiven.

Therefore, despite the silly band name, this unholy crew definitely show their worth with The Arts Of Destruction.
