How Much Dolla Did We Raise For TWLOHA?
First and foremost, all of us here at Daily Dischord would like to offer you our heart felt gratitude for helping us make the 11:11 show and charity event so fantastic. It really felt like everyone had a great time and if I didn’t have the chance to thank you for coming along at the exit door of Drummonds, then take this as a massive thank you for making this night special.
I’m going to keep my opinion on the show until later. The reason for this blog post is to tell you that we raised a brilliant total of £151 for To Write Love On Her Arms, a charity which I’m sure all of you will be passionate about in one way or another. The winner was Andy Kennedy, who was the lucky recipient of 7 Hassle Records CD’s, two gift vouchers for Burn Your Heroes Clothing and a ticket for Daily Dischord’s next four shows! This is an awesome achievement considering this was a local event which was in honesty, quite hastily prepared. We had some very generous donations from some people, so if you were one of them people then I offer a huge thanks to you. Every penny counts however so from the bottom of our hearts, on behalf of all the team here and over at TWLOHA, we want to thank all of you who donated £1, to those of you who donated £10. If you don’t know much about the selected charity, be sure to read their mission statement and also the poem which inspired the guys at TWLOHA to do what they are doing so well.
There’s many people I would like to thank, which without them, this would have been impossible. The great people over at Hassle Records were very kind in donating over £50 worth of CD’s, including albums from the likes of We Are The Ocean, Trash Talk, Alkaline Trio and Attack! Attack!. In particular I’d like to thank Chris Baker for helping us push this through. Hassle Records’ is a fantastic label which has worked very hard in the past few years to propel some of the best underground talent in to the limelight, which you have just recently seen with We Are The Ocean. They deserve a moment of your time so check them out and maybe buy some of their CD’s (if you didn’t win the raffle, that is!).
We would like to thank a friend of ours, David Simpson over at Burn Your Heroes Clothing, for helping us out at the very last minute by providing two gift vouchers for the lucky winner, in essence giving them two free t-shirts of their choice. Burn Your Heroes is a fantastic clothing line which is founded by David himself, selling hoodies and tee’s. Plans are in the works for expansion and the guys have worked very hard to provide a great new range which you should check out. Thanks David, your last ditch efforts to get those gift vouchers is appreciated!
In relation to the night itself, I want to thank Sean Spencer and Victoria Dodd for manning the TWLOHA desk whilst the DD team worked at running the event itself. It would have been very difficult to do this if it wasn’t for their help, so a big thank you! I also want to give a big shout out to all the bands for urging their fans to help us sell raffles and you should check them all out. The bands are Joy Riot, Talking Sideways, The Wetflex, Montesano Walkway and Eleven:Eleven. The most important people I want to thank, however, are you lot for buying the tickets. That sum of money which will all go to charity is all your doing, so we just cant thank you enough. You’ve all made this a very special evening.
We’re trying to organise more fund raisers for To Write Love On Her Arms in the future, so stay tuned to this very website and our Facebook page for any update on when the next one will be. We are aiming for June 16th when Acoda play The Tunnels, Aberdeen. Come to that show and help us raise even more money!
Thank you again, and I’ll leave you with one final plead to consider donating to TWLOHA if you didn’t happen to buy a raffle on the night!
