InnerPartySystem – American Trash
InnerPartySystem’s debut album was one of my favourite albums of 2009, and had some of my favourite songs of that year which I still enjoy just as much until this very day. It would be an understatement to say that expectations are high for album number two from this group of guys who just seemed to climb from strength to strength in the past couple of years.
It’s with complete disappointment that “American Trash” just doesn’t compare to the big hitters we’ve heard from the band so far like “Don’t Stop” or “This Town Your Grave”. The song is very dark, which we’ve heard the band do before and it definitely works, but their just seems to be a lack of something to really hold on to. Where the song really lets itself down is in the chorus. The bands self titled debut was crammed with choruses that just wouldn’t escape your head for hours after impact, but not only is the chorus in this song a let down, it’s extremely flat too.
This isn’t the end of the world for IPS. I’m hoping this is one of them songs that needs to settle in with it’s surrounding tracks within an album to be truly appreciated and perhaps the dark tones hint at something along these lines. Lets certainly hope so.
