Lamb Of God – Resolution
Not many bands last for seven albums and have a consistently good back catalogue throughout and with this, their 2012 release, Lamb Of God have not only proven (once again) that they can go toe-to-toe with some of metal’s finest, but they have also shown that they are quite capable of killing and burying any competition that stands in their way.
While LOG’s trademark sound is still apparent on Resolution, the band have taken what they already know and made it heavier and more diverse than ever before. The opening track ‘Straight For The Sun’ and the album finale ‘King Me’ are good examples of experimentation on this record. The former sounds like the lovechild of Down and Morbid Angel, utilizing a stoner-type riff but with the extra heaviness of three anvils. ‘King Me’ on the other hand sees the band expand their sound to epic proportions, combining choir and orchestral arrangements to explosive effect.
But don’t worry! There are still classic sounding tunes to get your teeth into. ‘Ghost Walking’ grooves along with the power of a punch to the face, while ‘To The End’ has a great Cowboys From Hell era Pantera vibe to it. In other words, this album is ace!
Some of the songs are a bit Lamb Of God by-numbers, but even those are of a good standard – proof that they cannot write bad songs!
So if you like your music heavy and… heavy, Resolution is for you!
