So
I managed to survive Siege and read The Heroic Age The Avengers.
What does everyone think?
In my opinion it feels more like a throwback to the 60s then anything else. It would seem that Marvel have noticed that Geoff Johns at DC has managed to perfect the brilliance of maintaining the essence of characters such as The Flash and Green Lantern whilst at the same time rejigging them so that they fit perfectly into the 21st century.
Bendis, to me, feels like he has read The Flash number 1 and tried to make a story similar to that for the new Avengers title. Hell even the brilliant John Romita Jnr seems to be drawing like Francis Manapul. The key problem with this in my opinion is that whilst The Flash feels organically right to be in this place, the Avengers feel as if too much darkness has loomed over the top of them for such a long time now, that this happiness, this heroism doesnt feel natural to me.
Also, I'm really not sure of Steve Rodgers new role in the Marvel universe. Do we need him? To me, its this strange paradox where I want Steve to be Cap if he's alive but at the same time I dont want Bucky to loose the mantle. Its the same problem that worryingly could happen to Batman soon with the return of Bruce Wayne: where do you put him? Thats what i thought anyway. An enjoyable read but dont know if Marvel have taken the right path for Avengers
