Well, some of you know and some of you don't care, but I'm building a brand new Daily Dischord for my honours project at university. This site is awesome, but I think we can take this thing to a whole new level. Just so some of you get an idea as to what the website will include. Here is a list:

-- User profiles on the mainpage for everyone. You can register as either a fan, artist, gig promoter, or record label, all of which will give you specific functions.

-- Each artist and label will have their own Daily Dischord music player (similar to MySpace) where they can upload music for all to hear.

-- The site will have an interactive calendar, where gig promoters can post all their gigs, and record labels can upload all album release dates. The cool part is that all users will have their own calendar where they can submit all the gigs they are going to.

This is just some basic ideas as of what is going on. All features we have just now will be kept obviously, but this will create a much more user interactive site which will give you guys a whole lot more to do when you visit the site. I'm super excited, and really hope it will be as good as I imagine!

A prototype will go up around xmas if my timing is right, and I will let you all see if you promise to fill out some feedback forms for me. If anyone wants to ask any questions, ask away!

All of these options sound great.

Can we regulars have our own personal music players as well, so we can hear what each other is listening to and discover artists we might not necessarily have heard of? Might require a bit extra bandwidth and storage though.

This is like a webzine for web 2.0, isn't it? Gonna be good.

Well, it is something I would definately look into in the future but not for the first version. The reason being that licensing would be a nightmare. If I let you upload any music you wanted to our servers we would get majorly fucked over by those seeking royalties and all that. Once we establish a nice rapport with the smaller labels and bands, and have a strong foundation of music in the database, that's when we can let users pick the songs to put on there profile. Not upload your own, but pick from the songs we have permission to play.

Does that make any sense?

Just a tiny, tiny update. The new site should go live in the next two months if I'm on schedule. It will be a slightly bare version of my idea, but it will grow quickly.

Forum will still be here, I have decided, but will be a completely separate entity from the website. For example, you will post comments on reviews/news posts by the site, and this will in no way have any interaction with the forum. You will have to register to both, but that's just the way it will have to be. That way if you are against my ideas for DD, you will not lose the community we have in the forum.

Oh yes, and Twitter integration will be worked on. Along with Facebook.
