Sound of Guns – Breakwater

With last year’s debut full-length What Came From Fire proving something of a masterclass in room-filling soundscapes and soaring, infectious choruses, Liverpool’s Sound of Guns continue their ascent with new single ‘Breakwater’, the first glimpse of new material ahead of their forthcoming second album. Their most ferocious track to date, the minor-key urgency of the verse soon gives way to their trademark dizzying hooks, and if nothing else, this is a genuinely exciting indicator of what’s to come from this band this year. It’s refreshing to hear a band this hell-bent on making such a glorious racket and maintaining a tight grip on a pop sensibility in the process, and it’s this combination that makes ‘Breakwater’ such essential listening. Yet another unqualified success from Britain’s most exciting new rock band.
